The Meaning of Love Letters
Romancing someone is not always done face to face. Some people prefer to express their romantic feelings in a love letter. Very often it is preferable to some people to put pen to paper when expressing feelings of love. Look at all the great poets and novelists such as Shakespeare who put down their romantic thoughts on paper. This is also a much more comfortable way of expressing one’s feelings in an indirect rather then in a direct manner.
Someone with deep emotional feelings would often feel more comfortable if they could personalize their feelings for someone else by writing down their thoughts on paper. This in turn has led to the writing of love poems, sonnets and love letters which are and always have been an expression of human emotion. In times gone by before the dawning of the era of electronics and computer technology love letters played a significant role where romance or feelings of affection were involved. For people living distances apart from each other and wishing to stay in contact there was no other or better way of communication. At one stage in human history writing love letters was considered to be a form of folk art in some countries such as Germany. Many letters used to be painted on expensive paper and were often scented when written by a lady to someone she felt deeply about. Very often love letters were burnt if relationships were ended or holding on to them had the potential to create an embarrassing or compromising situation.
Love letters can be written in any shape or form. The importance of these letters lies not in their structure but in the content and genuine sincerity of the writer who has committed his or her feelings in the permanent form of a love letter. Even today with the huge advance in telecommunications one is still able to purchase stationery which is specifically manufactured for the purpose of writing a love letter.
Letters expressing human emotions of love, loneliness, longing, sadness and happiness have always been an outlet whereby human expression could be made in a written form. They will continue to play a part in this and future generations.

Why a Love Letter?

The story goes that he befriended the jailer’s daughter and used to send her notes expressing his innermost feelings and emotions.
Many years later Pope Gelatius set aside the day of February 14th as a day of remembrance during which time the memory of St Valentine could be honored and St Valentine became regarded as the patron saint of lovers. This tradition has continued throughout the centuries. As a result of this the time of the year when love letters are frequently sent is Valentines Day. This is traditionally a time to show your feelings of love affection to that special person in your life. Most often an exchange of gifts which range from the sending of Valentines Day cards to that of sending flowers with cards attached and the purchasing of chocolates are very common occurrences which take place on the day of February 14th each year.
Unfortunately, to a large extent the celebration of Valentines Day has become very commercial and many enterprises seek to cash in and encourage people to go shopping for other items on this particular day. As a consequence of this Valentines Day has become one of the most lucrative periods for many commercially oriented businesses. This naturally enough deflects from the true meaning of the day which is someone’s expression of deep and genuine love for their partner. For many however, the true meaning and understanding of this day continues to play a part in their life. While there are many commercially available methods of purchasing an item to express your feelings on valentines day originality of your own goes a much longer way when you are expressing your own genuine feelings of love. This can be in the form of a card you have individually created or a gift that stands out as something different that would not be available commercially. Great and Enduring Love Stories

As a result of this Abelard became a monk and fearing for the safety off his loved one Heloise had her sent to a convent. The love between them never faded and the exchange of emotional and poignant love letters between them was well documented and they were eventually published.
One of the great love stories of our time is that of Marie and Pierre Curie the famous scientists who discovered radium. This was a constant and enduring love that existed between them for many years. Marie Curie because of her dedication to her research and despite many proposals of marriage from Pierre put their relationship on hold until 1895 when they were married and began working together . Long Distance Relationships
There are many couples who because of circumstances beyond their control are long distances away from each other yet maintain their love and feelings for one another. This is not an easy thing to do as it requires a lot of understanding, devotion and patience from both of them to keep their relationship on course. If you are in a similar situation the following tips may help you to keep things on track until the time comes that you can be together once again.

Faithfulness when apart is vital to a relationship so reassuring your partner of your commitment to them and having full confidence in them by telling them that you will wait for them however long it may take and be loyal to what the two of you have together, will reinforce the love you and your partner share together and avoid involvement with another party while you are separated.
Honest communication with each other when writing a letter plays an important part in a long distance relationship. Don’t shy away from sharing your most innermost thoughts with the one you love. A complete and fully understandable letter explaining the events taking place in your life when separated can go a long way towards avoiding any misunderstanding or misinterpretation of your letter.
Always remember the way things were when you were together. Don’t expect any dramatic changes or differences in your partner when you are together again.
People who care deeply about each other always like to know what is going on in their loved ones life when they are not together. Even writing about the most mundane and trivial occurrences in your life when your partner is not there will reassure them about what the two of you have together.
If possible try to get together now and then so that you can rekindle what you have together. A surprise visit where some physical contact takes place is wonderful experience for both of you. If this is not possible a long distance unexpected phone call can often work wonders.
