A Married Couple Becomes Uneasy About Their Heavy Drinking, How it is Affecting Their Relationship, and Contemplates Whether They Display Any Alcoholism Signs

Jerry and Sarah have been married for three years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have some kids and so they purposely fashioned an extremely active social life.

The major problem, it needs to be pointed out, is that almost everything they do to have fun somehow involves drinking. For example, all of the happy hours, dinner engagements, sporting events, parties with friends, and family get-togethers they patronize have something to do with drinking.

Jerry and Sarah Start to Observe Some Definite Alcohol Related Difficulties That are Associated With Their Irresponsible Drinking

If they were infrequent drinkers, this wouldn’t be a major issue. Because they drink rather abusively, however, they are beginning to take note of some instantly recognizable alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

As an illustration, just a few days ago Jerry was arrested for a second DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Jerry’s last three performance reviews at work have been less than satisfactory and he has started to forget what he does or says while he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been having sleep-related problems and his family has begun to get apprehensive about his drinking behavior.

Similar to Jerry’s circumstances, Sarah has been feeling depressed about life and to cope with this, she has been drinking more habitually than any time in the past three years. What is more, Sarah has been experiencing quite a few headaches and suffering from excruciating hangovers due to her drinking. As a final point, Sarah has been feeling appreciably less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been getting some harsh criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her heavy drinking.

Watching the TV and Inadvertently Discovering A TV Special About the Signs of Alcoholism

One Saturday evening while watching TV, Jerry and Sarah inadvertently found an attention-grabbing documentary about the signs of alcoholism.

This TV program was a real jolt to Sarah and Jerry because many of the alcoholism signs that were emphasized seemed like they were unswervingly correlated with quite a few of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been going through.

An Honest Chat About Drinking Circumstances Discloses Alcohol Related Relationship, Legal, Health, Employment, and Financial Problems

After watching the television special, Jerry and Sarah determined that they needed to have an honest chat about their drinking behavior. They both concurred that most, if not all, of their social functions somehow included drinking, that they were drinking abusively, and that as a couple, they were starting to notice alcohol related financial, employment, relationship, legal, and health problems for the first time in their lives.

With thoughts of the television documentary still fresh in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could be a warning that they are addicted to alcohol or possibly becoming alcoholic. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the nearby substance abuse rehabilitation clinic to find out more about the gravity of their drinking problems.

Concentrating On Your Drinking Problems Might Decrease Your Trepidation and Give You A Degree of Peacefulness

Paradoxically, although their drinking situation hadn’t yet changed, it was clear that Sarah and Jerry were at the very least tackling their drinking difficulties, they were ready to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were concerned about how they could substantially cut down the severity or do away with the drinking-related issues that had begun to intensify.

When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that evening, they arrived at a decision that the next afternoon, Jerry would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse rehabilitation center located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking problems that had manifested themselves in their lives, they actually had the most refreshing night’s sleep they could bring to mind in the last five weeks.

Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and mentioned how painless it is to lessen one’s sense of dread and truly experience some serenity by addressing one’s problems with personal integrity and making up one’s mind to do something positive about them.
