A Young Man’s Excessive Drinking Leads To a DUI, Time Behind Bars, and Then to a Life Changing Event Due to an Old Relationship

Jesse had a very difficult time keeping a job. Indeed, due to his sluggishness and lack of incentive, he was jobless far more frequently than he was in work. And when he did secure a job, he had a particularly difficult time getting to work in a timely manner, he typically received less than acceptable performance evaluations, and he called off sick so regularly that he typically got fired just a few weeks after he began working. To no one’s surprise, one of the effects of Jesse’s less than acceptable work history was the fact that he was virtually broke from day-to-day.

In spite of Jesse’s crummy work record and financial misbehavior, conversely, one way or another he made it his business to drink in an abusive and excessive manner most of the time.

So it came as no big jolt when Jesse got a third DUI. When he went to court, the magistrate clearly stated to Jesse that his alcohol-related behavior was appalling and, as a result, he was going to sentence Jesse to serve seven months in jail.

Time In The Municipal Jail To Think About The Negative Outcomes of Abusive Drinking

During his time behind bars, Jesse was required to learn more about alcohol facts, about the distressing outcomes of irresponsible and abusive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol counseling. The magistrate emphasized the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol therapy and learns how to live a life of abstinence, he will probably be spending a lot more time in the local jail.

Jesse stated that he comprehended what the judge was pronouncing but he still stated that jail was not the proper punishment. The magistrate saw things differently and declared that it was his obligation to keep alcohol dependent persons off the streets who drive under the influence and who get arrested for multiple DWIs. To give credibility to this assertion, the judge quoted some revered, thoroughly researched alcohol statistics that underscored some of the negative results that are related to irresponsible and hazardous drinking.

Although Jesse understood that he drank a great deal, he never thought that he was an individual who was addicted to alcohol. So it was a big surprise when Jesse began experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms around two hours after getting locked up in the county jail.

To manage his alcohol withdrawals in a safe and sound manner, Jesse was taken by ambulance to an alcohol rehab hospital for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the municipal jail. While in jail Jesse got alcohol rehabilitation but since he received this therapy as something that was mandated for him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his excessive drinking.

When his time in the county jail was finished, the magistrate stated to Jesse that he would be under careful scrutiny and would be mandated to take periodic random breath alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Irresponsible Drinking Prevents Him From Living in a Responsible and Effective Manner

After hearing how Jesse was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking circumstances and how he unwillingly followed the treatment code of behavior while in the city jail, the magistrate knew that it was basically a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his excessive and irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate reflected on Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some individuals never use their brain and discover how to live in an adult manner.

An Old Relationship Inspires and Motivates Jesse to Radically Change His Life

But something happened in Jesse’s life that substantially changed his fruitless lifestyle. One day when he was at the grocery store buying chewing tobacco, he met Alice, a girl he hadn’t seen since the fourth grade. After some small talk, Alice openly told Jesse that due to her drug and alcohol abuse she was fortunate to be alive.

When Jesse asked her what happened that changed her life so totally, she explained to Jesse that when her cousin Cali passed away from an alcohol overdose, this made her see the destructive and injurious life she had been living.

She highlighted the point that the first thing she did after her cousin’s passing was to start going back to the church she attended when she was in grade school. That was eight years ago and with the support, guidance and help of her preacher and other people at the church, she started going to Alcoholics Anonymous and she also got drug and alcohol treatment at the local drug and alcohol treatment clinic. Alice told Jesse that despite a couple of tough times, she is at last on the path to long term recovery and feeling a sense of happiness and joy for the first time in her adult life. When Jesse accepted Alice’s invitation to go to her church she was pleasantly surprised. After going to just about nine or ten church services, for the first time since he dropped out of high school, Jesse began thinking that maybe there was hope for him and that he could at long last address his alcohol and drug issues and begin living a more healthy and beneficial life.
