Divorce 2010 – Families of the Future

These days divorce is a common occurrence. Everybody knows about someone who got divorce An option for married couples who decide they may not want to be married any longer is to separate from each other. This means that they will no longer be married and are then able to re-marry someone else if they choose to do so.

Divorce can occur for many reasons. Good or bad, it is a modern social trend. It is a serious decision for a married couple to make. Their family’s relationships, as well as their personal one, will be affected. Married couples might also be mothers and fathers who have children together. These children may be profoundly affected by the decision of their parents.

Among some cultures and religions today it is still considered taboo. However, most societies accepts this choice since it’s increasingly common. Instead, most societies offer moral and financial support and counseling to all of the people affected.

In 2010, divorce can make for some very interesting family dynamics, whether nuclear or extended. Many children grow up with single parents, stepparents, stepsisters and half-brothers, half-sisters and half-brothers, the new boyfriend of mom or dad new girlfriend, or both if both parents dating new partners at the same time. Or a combination of all mentioned above. There are many possibilities and variations. From a very early age young children may very well deal with complex relationships. An adult will find these sort of issues formidable. The 21st century family is indeed a social science that is most interesting.

It also makes it a very interesting time for defining marriage as a form of legal binding agreement. It used to be that all you needed to get married was a marriage license and a clergyman or judge to perform the ceremony. As it is such a common practice today, pre-wedding or pre-nups “are a popular addition to weddings and even concidered as fashionable. If a married couple should happen to separate, pre-nups generally state who gets what. They may even be as detailed and complex set of rules on how a couple should behave towards each other.

Consider this test. Do you know many divorced people? Consider your aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, grandparents, parents and friends. Your co-workers, bosses, teachers, students, or employees. Your roommates and neighbors. Your favorite author, musician, politician and celebrity. I personally can name one in almost every category listed above except one. I tried this test to a friend, and I think I can name one of the most categories above.

Society today may consider marriage differently as well. For marriage if they do not seem to work what does it mean? Should someone be careful about not getting a pre-nup before marriage? If asked to sign a pre-nup, how would it be approached by you? Maybe you like the idea of pre-nuptial agreements. Everyone will indeed be discussing this most timely topic in 2010. And is a direct reminder of our modern times and it poses many new social trends.
