Great and Enduring Love Stories

Romantics love to read about great love stories that have been written throughout the course of human history. Let’s mention a few:

Cleopatra who was pharaoh of Egypt was one of the most famed and beautiful women of her generation. She was an extremely religious woman, a fine mathematician and was fluent in many languages. Her affair with Marc Antony the roman general is well documented in history but ended in a tragic way for both of them. However, their love for each other remains as one of the great love stories of human history.

A monument to true love is the Taj Mahal palace in India which was constructed by the mourning Emperor Shah Jahan after his wife Mumtaz Mahal died in 1629 and he erected this monumental structure which took 20 years to complete in memory of his love for her.

One of the great love stories of all time is that of Abelard and Heloise. Abelard who was a philosopher had been tutoring the niece Heloise of the Canon of Notre Dame and fell in love with her. They had a child together and this so infuriated Filbert the Canon that he had Abelard castrated. As a result of this Abelard became a monk and fearing for the safety off his loved one Heloise had her sent to a convent. The love between them never faded and the exchange of emotional and poignant love letters between them was well documented and they were eventually published.

One of the great love stories of our time is that of Marie and Pierre Curie the famous scientists who discovered radium. This was a constant and enduring love that existed between them for many years. Marie Curie  because of her dedication to her research and despite many proposals of marriage from Pierre put their relationship on hold until 1895 when they were married and began working together . Three years later radium was discovered.

These are just a few of the many wonderful love stories that romantics love to read about.

Buzz In: What’s the Greatest Love Story Ever Told?

One of the most well-known love stories of all time is, of course, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. There’s young lust and passion, devotion and romantic tragedy, all rolled up in one long, dramatic tale. Would you say it’s the greatest.

The Greatest Love Story

I call this the greatest story ever told. It’s not Romeo and Juliet – they died for love. In my limited vocabulary, a love story can’t be the greatest if the people involved die. So, my pick is that of Jacob and Rebecca.
