Jealousy is a feeling of resentment that someone gained something you feel you should have. It is also the fear of losing something/someone to a rival. Jealousy does not have to be a bad thing. Having a protective jealousy is actually a good thing. Would you stand by and let another women “charm” your husband or lies to your child. Of course not, you would stand up for them and fight for them. The unhealthy type is when the jealousy is driven by fear, being insecure or deception.
There are plenty of reasons to learn how to stop being jealous. Some include our lives being filled with confusion, bitterness, worthlessness and disorder. Any of these feelings are not healthy for someone. Be sure that you will drive friends, family, and spouse away from you. You are not pleasant to be around and you will isolate yourself, which will only make if worse for you.
When someone has these sensations of jealousy, they may want to look at their own life. Do they have a life? Do they have low self-esteem? They may need to do some soul searching before they can start to identify and control their jealousy. Soon how to stop being jealous will come naturally.
Talk: Talking can help you stop being jealous. You will hear other people’s opinions and you will probably learn that you are not alone; you just have to learn to deal with it better. Finding a therapist could help more so than close friends because they will be biased.
Love Yourself: People are so busy with working and family that they forget about themselves. Go out and buy those shoes you wanted, get your hair done. It does not have to be about spending money, it is taking time to really take in where you are at and what your life is about.
Do fun things with spouse: Relationships are work. Have a date night and be attentive and make sure your spouse is attentive to you.
Be your own best friend: When your child or friend/family talks down negatively, you would tell them to stop. Tell yourself to stop also. This may be the hardest part but you need to consciously tell yourself stop and make yourself think about something else. The more you do this, the easier it will be and soon you will find yourself not caring about what others have and loving what you have. You can learn how to stop being jealous and start living a better life for you.
